Hastings
Choristers were privileged to welcome internationally
renowned composer and arranger Tony Backhouse to Port
Macquarie, to be the special guest conductor and vocalist at its In
the Spirit concert. This gospel concert was a sell-out and
showcased the amazing talents and vocal abilities of Tony.
Hastings
Choristers’ Music Director, Olwen Williams,
produced a program of Tony’s gospel compositions together with some well-known
gospel favourites. Tony conducted a number of pieces and was also the
soloist for some of his compositions. Performances from the
ever-popular female choral ensemble Cantabile also
delighted the audience in their separate brackets as well as joining with Cantorus
to sing up a storm while the debonair and talented pianist Jonathan
Hingston accompanied both choirs.
A highlight of
the concert was Tony Backhouse leading a three-part harmony of one of his
songs where the audience, who were generally surprised how quickly they
could learn their part, produced beautiful harmonies.
