13-14 September 2003 - Port Macquarie Uniting Church
Friends of both the two and
four-footed kinds joined the Hastings Choristers
for its concert “All Creatures Great and Small”, held at the Uniting
Church in Port Macquarie on Saturday 13 September at 7.30pm and Sunday 14
September at 2.00pm. This was a light and bright event with lots of good music
and several surprises. Where else would an audience get the chance to see
Dancing Dogs?
Audiences were delighted with the quality of
the chorus and the several smaller ensembles and soloists lined up to perform
choral and instrumental pieces. “Cantabile” the female a capella
group performed some new and challenging works which were a highlight. There was
also a mixed voice smaller ensemble which had been formed specifically for
“All Creatures Great and Small” which provided an interesting blend of great
music and wacky humour. Guitar and
piano solos added a nice balance to the mix.
This was a perfect family concert and a great
way to introduce children to Choral music – and how much fun it can be to
sing. Several children performed and much of the repertoire was familiar to
young and old as we wandered through the incredibly diverse world of animal
songs.
A week earlier, pet
owners were delighted with the “Blessing of the Animals” held at St
Thomas’ Anglican Church in Port Macquarie on Sunday Sept 7th at
11am. The Rev John Dyer conducted the blessing in the church grounds and
entertainment was provided by the Port Macquarie Band and the Hastings
Choristers.
