Our
SATB choir
Cantorus is
of course well known for its quality performances of big choral works such
as Mozart Vespers, Handel’s Messiah, Faure’s &
Mozart’s Requiems, as well as a plethora of other beautiful
smaller pieces both sacred and secular.
Cantorus
departed from that hallmark style in Wintersong,
where they presented a lighter set of romantic pieces arranged and
conducted by local musician Glenn Moore. To get a flavour of this
brief but exciting opening - - think James Taylor, Billy Joel,
Beatles, and Manhattan Transfer! The second bracket from Cantorus
was the short but enthralling Missa Kenya by Paul Basler,
with the choir accompanied by a small ensemble, Fluegel horn, and
percussion featuring the amazing Mark Spence.
Our
Cantabile female
ensemble, with their large local following, thrilled patrons with
their first set of beautiful offerings, including some from South America;
and concluded with some ever-popular songs including two ABBA
favourites.
Supporting
the two choirs was magnificent local violinist Margie Cassegrain
and our accompanist extraordinaire Lydia Wills on the piano.
