IN THE MOOD - a departure
from Hastings Choristers' usual classical choral works - this concert
presented toe-tapping light and bright music, ideal for busy people on
their way home from work.
The Hastings Room at The Westport Club was the venue for patrons to spend
a relaxed and happy hour-and-a-bit at the end of their working day.
Featured artists were the REDS QUINTET, a well-known and
much-loved band - Glenn Moore on trumpet,
Andrew Harrison, percussion, Jock Garven, sax, Greg
Goldsmith, bass and Bob Barnett, keys.
The CANTORUS choir performed four well-loved swing and popular
classics including 'In the Mood' and 'I've
Got Rhythm', and was also conducted by Glenn Moore (what a
talent!) for four of his own arrangements.
The female ensemble, CANTABILE,
clearly relished the boppy repertoire they presented - 'Lullaby of Birdland', 'Chattanooga Choo Choo' and
'Blue Skies' among others.
Carol Irving, well known local Sax and Clarinet teacher, added
her tenor sax to those of her students, Katelyn
Porter and Jasmine Hone on alto sax and Tait McIntyre
on baritone sax, to form a Sax Quartet.
Their 'Swinging’ Medley' sounded great with the rest of the concert
program.
