The Third Hastings Choral Festival “A Weekend of Song” wound up on Sunday afternoon 16 May 2004 with the splendid sound of 200 voices in the Festival massed choir.

The weekend was organised by the Hastings Choristers Inc with the support of a Federal Government “Festivals Australia” grant. It attracted people from all over Australia to take part in workshops and massed choir sessions led by some of the leading choral and vocal teachers in the country.
Both the “Humming Birds” concert on the Saturday night and the Festival Concert on the Sunday were well supported by the public.
Participants learned about everything from Gospel and World Music to vocal technique, sight reading and part singing skills. The vocal master- classes conducted by soprano Jennifer Barnes gave many of our local singers the chance to work with one of the country’s top singers.
Organisers Kerryn Lawrence and Gillian Brotherston worked tirelessly along with Musical Director Robyn Ryan to put on a weekend that was praised for its superb organisation.
The generous donation of the venue for the weekend by MacKillop College also needs to be acknowledged, as does the contribution of the dozens of volunteers who came together to make the event the success it was.

The next Choral Festival will be in May 2006 so if you missed out this time you can look forward to the next Weekend of Song which will be even bigger and better.
